Star Buy - Grenache Gris

I'm so thrilled to see my Grenache Gris 2014 selected by Rose Murray Brown MW as her STAR BUY in The Scotsman on the 23rd July.

"For those who like full flavoured whites, the intriguing Grenache Gris grape makes a lusciously rich honeyed white in warm Roussillon.  Englishwoman Katie Jones unexpectedly discovered some old gnarled vines of this unusual grape in her Maury vineyard; expect fresh minerality combined with herby spicy undertones."

Frauenpower

Frauenpower - Such a great sounding title to this article in the German magazine Feinschmecke.  Frauenpower put to one side for a moment I am very proud that my Fitou made it into the top 100 wines for 2014. 

I am a Land Girl

This months edition of LIVING FRANCE has coined a phrase that I rather like - Land Girl!  This is the title of a 6 page full colour article on myself (incroyable mais vrai) and my new career as a wine maker here in the tiny village of Tuchan.  For the full article click here.

I actually had no idea what a Land Girl was until I googled it and found out that it describes women who worked the land during the war whilst their husbands were away.

And I know how they felt - not that my husband is away at war - but the satisfaction of driving a tractor for the first time, the feeling of doing good physical hard labour outside in the fresh air and that naughty feeling of doing something that you shouldn't really be doing.

But what I love most is how it was advertised as the "Healthy, Happy Job" - an inspiration for when I am out in the vineyards in gale force winds with sub zero temperatures, cold feet, cold hands and a dripping nose!

Sometimes things happen so fast that you don't take the time to appreciate the moment.  Domaine Jones white was written up in The Sunday Times.  Can you believe it the Style magazine of The Sunday Times?  When you are out pruning you have time, time to think and reflect.  I am taking the time to savour this very special moment.
